Why change strings?

Once conventional strings start to oxidise (when the strings change to a darker colour) they become increasingly difficult to tune, and their sound quality will deteriorate.

Generally a standard set of strings should be replaced at least every 1 to 2 months. They will lose their initial brilliance after around 10 hours of playing.

Elixir strings can go for 3 to 4 months before needing to be replaced. Elixir strings are coated to slow down the oxidisation process. They are more expensive than conventional strings but they last a lot longer.
